1. Can my child apply to be an AZJSHS Oral/ Poster/ Observer without a teacher or mentor?

Yes, your child may fill out the registration form Oral/Poster/Observer. They must have a responsible adult to be their sponsor/chaperone for the entire event.

AZJSHS will notify you if they have been accepted in the category of their choice. Your child may be accepted in a different category.

2. Can my child attend AZJSHS without a sponsor/mentor acting as a chaperone?

No. All students must have a chaperone. A group of students may have one chaperone/sponsor /mentor.

3. Can a parent be a sponsor/mentor/chaperone?

Yes.

4. Will accommodations be provided for students mentor/ sponsor/teacher/parent and a chaperone for AZJSHS?

No. Accommodations will only be provided for the student and the person acting as the chaperone for the student. The chaperone may be a mentor/sponsor/teacher/parent.

5. Can a parent or interested person attend an AZJSHS presentation that is not a mentor/sponsor/teacher/chaperone?

Yes. However, you are responsible for your own accommodations/ food during the event.

6. Will my child have their own room?

No, your child will be rooming with other students of the same sex.

7. Can my child just show up Saturday morning to compete in their category?

NO. Your child must commit and be present at the Friday night events in order to present in the Saturday competition. The interactions your child will share with other students from Arizona are an important aspect of AZJSHS.

FAQ STUDENTS

1. If my teacher/mentor did not choose me present/ attend AZJSHS may I apply on my own?

Yes, you may register as an individual (resitration form for individual). You and your sponsor/mentor must fill out a registration form Oral/Poster/Observer. AZJSHS will notify you if you have been accepted in the category of your choice. You may be accepted a different category.

2. Can I compete both as an Oral and Poster Presenter?

No.

3. Do I choose my category? For example: Environmental or Engineering.

Yes, you may indicate a category preference. AZJSHS reserves the right to place you in the category we believe is best suited for you during the regional symposium.

4. Can I choose who I room with?

No. Room assignments are decided by AZJSHS. An important part of the symposium is the interaction you will have with other students from Arizona.

5. Can I just show up Saturday morning to compete in my category?

NO. You must commit and be present at the Friday night events in order to present in the Saturday competition. Again, the interactions you will other students from Arizona is an important aspect of AZJSHS.

6. Will I have time to check out the room and equipment before my presentation?

Yes. You must check out all your equipment between 7:00 and 8:00 AM. This is your responsibility. No exceptions will be made. If you have technical problems you must resolve them during this time frame. Once the competition starts, if you experience technical problems you will have to proceed with your presentation without your visuals. No exceptions will be made.
